The Ravenna boys basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to gain a big victory on Friday, 45-36 over Shelby in West Michigan Conference action.

The Bulldogs, now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the league, trailed 15-13 at halftime before pulling away in the final two quarters.

Trevor Hazen led a balanced Ravenna scoring attack with 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Austin Adams added nine points and seven rebounds while Ryan Osmer chipped in seven points, four rebounds and three assists.

Spencer Brown had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Shelby, which dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.

WHITEHALL 63, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 50 – The Vikings held a 34-20 halftime lead on Friday night and held on to win in conference action. Luc Schumm and Drew Young each scored 19 points for Whitehall. Schumm had six assists and Young had three steals.

NORTH MUSKEGON 44, OAKRIDGE 29 – North Muskegon jumped out to a 18-0 lead that extended into the second quarter before Oakridge was able to get on the board. Riley Fairfield led the Norsemen (2-0, 1-0) with 16 points while Fletcher Chase and Austin Dutton each had six points for Oakridge (0-2, 0-1).

MONTAGUE 66, HART 31 – The Wildcats set the tone with an 18-9 first quarter edge and dominated throughout. Montague led 31-19 at the half and 50-26 after three quarters. Merritt Hamann scored 20 points to lead Montague. Austin VanderLaan led Hart with 14 points.
