The Muskegon Lumberjacks’ three-game winning streak came to a halt in painful fashion on Friday night.

The Jacks led by two in the third period, but allowed three unanswered goals and fell 5-4 to the Madison Capitols at the Alliant Energy Center in Wisconsin.

Muskegon is now 18-12-2 on the season, good for 38 points and a third-place tie with the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

Andrei Svechnikov paced the Lumberjacks with two goals while Bo Hanson added a goal and an assist. Marcus Russell and Collin Adams each chipped in with two assists for Muskegon.

The Lumberjacks opened the scoring 9:03 into the first period on a goal by Svechnikov. Adams and Russell each assisted on the tally.

Madison tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal by Alec Broetzman at the 11:11 mark of the first period.

Muskegon regained its lead on a goal by Hanson at the 7:54 mark of the second period. Keeghan Howdeshell and Adams were credited with assists.

Madison’s Kasey Fitzjerrells scored at 13:01 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.

The Lumberjacks took a 3-2 lead on a goal from Marc Del Gaizo with 16 second left in the second period. Russell picked up his second assist on the tally.

Svechnikov increased Muskegon’s lead to 4-2 with his second goal at the 1:19 mark of the third period. Mikael Hakkarainen and Hanson had assists.

Madison cut its deficit to 4-3 with a goal by Keegan Ford at the 7:26 mark of the third period, then tied it at the 14:50 mark when Kevin O’Neil scored.

Eetu Selanne scored the game winner for Madison at the 18:30 mark of the third period.

Muskegon outshot the Capitols by a slim 35-34 margin. Lumberjacks goaltender Keith Petruzzelli stopped 29 shots.
