The Montague boys basketball team improved to 5-1 on Monday with a 50-43 non-conference victory over Fremont.

The Wildcats opened the game with a 10-0 run. Fremont pulled within 19-16 near the end of the first half, but Montague made a late triple and led 22-16 at halftime.

Fremont pulled back to within three points with about three minutes left in the game, but could get no closer.

Merritt Hamann led Montague with 16 points while Abram Erickson added 13 and Hunter Moser had 11.

Sam Kastra had 14 points and 15 rebounds for Fremont, which dropped to 4-3 on the season. Ryan Geeting had 16 points and eight steals.
