The Hart boys basketball team won its first West Michigan Conference game in more than five years on Friday, posting an exciting 42-38 victory over Ravenna.

Austin Vanderlaan and Alex Dodson hit important free throws down the stretch to lead the Pirates to victory. Dodson paced Hart in the game with 10 points while Vanderlaan and Dustin Klotz both chipped in nine.

Trevor Hazen led Ravenna with 11 points and six rebounds.

Hart improved to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in league play. Ravenna dropped to 3-3 and 1-3.

WHITEHALL 50, NORTH MUSKEGON 44 – The Vikings used a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to edge the Norsemen. Lucas Schumm had a game-high 22 points for Whitehall (5-1, 4-0). North Muskegon (3-3, 2-2) was led by Dalton Fuller, who scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds.

SHELBY 58, OAKRIDGE 47 – Spencer Brown’s 18 point, 11 rebound double-double led the Tigers (2-4, 1-3) to a win in conference action. Shelby took a 25-20 lead into halftime, then expanded its advantage in the second half. Tyler Schouten added 12 points, four assists and three rebounds for the Tigers. Oakridge dropped to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
