A big second half propelled the Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team to an impressive 91-64 victory over Kellogg Community College on Wednesday.
The Jayhawks only led 42-38 at halftime, but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, only allowing Kellogg to score 26 points.
“I was really disappointed with the way we played, mainly on defense, in the first half, and I challenged them to play the way we expect,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. “I thought they did a much better job in the second half.”
Sergio Diaz paced MCC with 23 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Ervin Jr. added 16 points and 10 rebounds while Mike Williams totaled 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Ricarri Stimage and Daryl Kirkland contributed 12 points apiece.
The Jayhawks, ranked 21st in the nation among Division 2 junior college teams, improved to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in the MCCAA’s Western Conference. They will visit Lansing Community College, the first-place team in the conference, on Saturday.
