The Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team clinched at least a share of the MCCAA Western Conference championship with an 86-77 victory over Jackson College on Monday.

The Jayhawks, who have won seven games in a row, are now 21-5 overall and 15-2 in conference play. They can clinch the outright conference title with a victory on Wednesday.

MCC grabbed a 47-37 halftime lead. Kyle Ervin Jr. paced the way in the first half with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Jayhawks nailed nine 3-pointers before halftime.

All five MCC starters scored in double figures in the second half.

“It wasn’t pretty, but our guys were tough tonight and made plays when it mattered the most,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. “Give credit to our guys. They earned it.”

Ervin totaled 26 points and 19 rebounds for MCC. Ricarri Stimage added 20 points and eight assists while Mike Williams had 15 points, including several key free throws down the stretch.

Sergio Diaz and Daryl Kirkland scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Jayhawks.
