The Muskegon girls basketball squad opened Class A districts with a 34-17 victory over Kenowa Hills on Monday night in quarterfinal action.

The Big Reds led 3-2 after the first quarter, 19-7 at halftime and 29-15 heading into the final stanza. Muskegon closed out the contest with an 8-2 fourth quarter run.

Daz’sha Day paced the Big Reds with 17 points, four assists and four rebounds while Diynasti Dowell added eight points and five rebounds.

Muskegon will face Mona Shores on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in the Class A district semifinals at Reeths-Puffer.
