The North Muskegon girls tennis team captured the Portland Invitational at Michigan State University’s indoor courts on Saturday while Whitehall finished third.

The Norse finished with 17 points, topping second place Portland (15 points). Third place Whitehall finished with 9 points and Dewitt (7 points) took fourth.

Whitehall’s Vanessa Heylmun went 3-0 on the day to take the No. 1 singles championship. North Muskegon’s Brittany Bailey (2-1) finished runner-up.

In No. 2 singles action, Taylor Mikkelson finished runner-up for Whitehall with a 2-1 record.

North Muskegon’s Lauren Golden (3-0) was the No. 3 singles champion and Anneka Lindsay (3-0) took the No. 4 singles championship for the Norse.

Belles Hardman and Mary Hoopes captured the No. 1 doubles championship for North Muskegon going 3-0 and Whitehall’s Brooke Bachelder and Brooke Sheesley finished 2-1 at the runner-up spot.

North Muskegon also took the No. 2 doubles championship with Tori Larsen and Lily Montgomery finishing 3-0.
