Great pitching helps Shelby baseball claim close wins over Hopkins, Newaygo

Strong pitching led the Shelby baseball team to a pair of victories on Saturday.

Cody DeVries tossed a five-hitter, leading the Tigers to a 3-1 win over Hopkins. Simon Payne and Kristian Oberlin had RBI singles for Shelby. Johah Kelly knocked in the other run.

Simon Payne pitched a four-hitter in the second game, leading Shelby past Newaygo 3-0. Matt Felt had two hits for the Tigers, Oberlin had a hit and two RBIs and Brent Worth had an RBI.

Shelby is now 12-6 on the season.
