The West Michigan Whitecaps picked up a 2-0 road victory over South
Bend on Saturday to improve their record to 3-0.

With the shutout victory, Whitecaps pitching has now gone 32 innings
of the young season without allowing a run.

Starting pitcher Spenser Watkins picked up the win while scattering
three hits and striking out five over five and 2/3 innings. Alfred
Gutierrez got the save, pitching three and 1/3 innings while striking
out five Cubs.

Cam Gibson scored the lone runs for the Whitecaps. He had a solo homer
in the third inning and scored on an Elvis Rubio sacrifice fly in the
fifth.

West Michigan will close out its home-and-home four-game series
against the Cubs with a game at South Bend on Sunday at 2 p.m.
