After starting the season 3-0, the West Michigan Whitecaps are now 3-2 after falling 7-1 to South Bend on Sunday and 2-0 to Dayton on Monday.

The Whitecaps’ pitching staff’s scoreless streak came to an end at 32 innings when South Bend scored in the first inning on Sunday.

The Cubs secured the victory by scoring two runs in the first, two in the third, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Daniel Pinero singled in Will Savage in the sixth inning for West Michigan’s lone run.

On Monday, Cam Gibson and Blaise Salter had the lone hits for West Michigan against Dayton. Starting pitcher Austin Sodders had a strong outing for the Whitecaps, giving up only two hits and striking out six Dragons in five innings.

Dayton scored the only two runs of the game in the sixth inning, after Sodders left the game.

The Whitecaps will continue their three-game series at Dayton on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
