The West Michigan Whitecaps lost 3-2 to Dayton on Tuesday night, extending their losing streak to three games.

The Whitecaps now sit at 3-3 overall.

West Michigan took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning when Cam Gibson scored on a Blaise Salter double and Elvis Rubio scored on a fielder’s choice RBI by Austin Athmann.

The Whitecaps’ lead was cut to 2-1 in the seventh inning, then Dayton scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for good.

Rubio led West Michigan with two hits and one run while starting pitcher Gregory Soto allowed no runs on one hit in five innings while striking out four. Relief pitcher Eduardo Jimenez took the loss.

West Michigan will wrap up its three-game series at Dayton on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
