The Ludington and Shelby softball squads split a doubleheader in non-league play on Monday.

The Tigers cruised past Ludington in the opener 16-3, then the Orioles bounced back with an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.

In Game 1 Ludington was paced by Ryan Makowicki with two hits and one run scored while Riley Rittenhouse added two hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Breanna Lange contributed with one hit and two RBIs for the Orioles and both Carissa Bush and Olivia VerStrat each had an RBI.

Makowicki suffered the loss on the mound for Ludington, allowing 12 hits in 2 1/3 innings while striking out two batters and walking one.

In Game 2 the Orioles were led by Lange with three hits, including a triple, one run scored and three RBIs.

Mackenzie Howe chipped in with two hits and one run scored for Ludington and Tiffany LaFrance had one hit and two runs scored.

The Orioles are now 3-15 on the season and 1-7 in Lakes 8 play.
