Montague needed to survive a shootout to advance to the second round of the West Michigan Conference tournament on Wednesday.

The Wildcats outscored Ravenna 3-2 in the shootout to clinch the victory, with Brooklyn Scheider making two critical saves for Montague.

Montague had a 2-1 lead at the half, thanks to goals from Emily Unger and McKenna Lohman. 

But Ravenna sent the game to overtime as the Bulldogs’ Maddie Abbott scored with just 4 minutes remaining in the second half.

After two scoreless overtime sessions, the game went to a shootout, where Scheider, Unger and Sadie Vanguilder scored for Montague.

Izzy Hammond scored a first-half goal for Ravenna, while goalie Kaylea Young had 14 saves.
