Mona Shores softball slugger Taylor Dew hit two home runs in the Sailors’ doubleheader sweep of Montague, pulling her within one of the state single-season record.

The homers were Dew’s 18th and 19th of the season. The state record of 20 is held by Abby Krzywiecki of Farmington Hills Mercy. Mona Shores has two regular season games left-against Holton on Friday- then begins district tournament play next week.

Mona Shores defeated Montague 6-2 and 12-1 on Thursday.

In Game 1, Lauren Patterson picked up the win, striking out 11 while Veronica Kastelic went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on a home run. Dew finished with two RBIs in the game.

Maddie Van Etten and Eller Rose combined for a no-hitter in Game 2. Grace Hall led the Sailor offense with three hits and two RBIs. Dew finished the game with three hits and three RBIs while Erika Dakin, Maddie Cirner, and Kastelic all had two hits.

With the sweep, Mona Shores is 23-14 on the year.
