Back-to-back dominant starting pitching helped the West Michigan Whitecaps defeat Great Lakes 2-1 on Wednesday and 3-2 on Thursday.

Anthony Castro tossed seven innings of one run ball on Wednesday to pick up the win while also striking out 12 Offensively Austin Athmann led the Whitecaps with three hits and one run scored.

On Thursday, Austin Sodders took his turn, tossing eight innings of two run ball while striking out eight. Jacob Robson and Athmann led the offense with two hits each.

West Michigan is 36-17 on the year and two games in front of Dayton for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

The Whitecaps will return home on Friday to start a three game series with Lansing beginning at 7 p.m.
