The West Michigan Whitecaps defeated Lake County 6-5 on Friday in Willowick Ohio for their third straight victory.

West Michigan is now 12-4 in the second half and 57-26 overall on the season.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning Friday, the Whitecaps responded with one run in both the second and third inning before a four run fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Lake County responded with three runs in the fifth inning to cut the Whitecap lead to 6-4 which remained till the bottom of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Lake County scraped across one run before falling 6-5 to West Michigan.

Anthony Pereira and Chad Sedio each led West Michigan with two hits on the night. Pereira finished with two RBIs including a solo home run in the third inning, while Sedio finished with one RBI of his own.

Whitecaps starter Spenser Watkins picked up his sixth win of the season, improving his record to 6-1 on the year. Watkins pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Relief pitcher Burris Warner picked up his second save of the season, allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out four in three innings.

West Michigan will continue its series at Lake County on Saturday at 7 p.m.
