The Montague football team throttled Reed City 48-14 Friday night in a big season opener.

Blake Jones started the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run to give Montague a 7-0 lead. Jake Jancek added a 32-yard touchdown run, giving Montague a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Phillip Jones punched in a five-yard rushing touchdown for Reed City to cut the Wildcat lead to 14-7.

Montague closed the first-half scoring with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Sebastian Archer to Jancek, giving the Wildcats a 21-7 halftime lead.

Bryce Stark had a nine-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Archer scrambled for a 28-yard score, giving Montague a 35-6 edge.

Montague scored two more times in the fourth quarter, including a 15-yard run by Archer, while Reed City also added one more score.

Archer paced the Wildcats with 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns on nine carries, while also throwing for 114 yards and one touchdown on 5-for-8 passing.

Jancek led Montague receivers with 102 yards and one touchdown on three receptions. Joe Rupert led the defense with 15 tackles.
