The Spring Lake boys cross country team captured the Cardinal Invitational at Orchard View Monday, easily outdistancing runner-up Sparta.

The Lakers finished with 38 points, Sparta had 85, followed by Jenison (94), Montague (100) and Reeths-Puffer (118).

Andrew Hylen was one of four Spring Lake runners to finish in the top 10, taking top honors with a time of 16:30.42.

The Lakers’ Ben Hylen (16:36.38) finished in second, followed by Cameron Thalhammer (sixth) and Matthew Vanderwall (ninth).

Montague’s Cole Jensen (third), Whitehall’s Sam Baustert (fourth), Reeths-Puffer’s Evan Hodson (fifth) and Orchard View’s Michael Hyatt (eighth) round out the top 10.

Whitehall and Western Michigan Christian finished tied for sixth with 187 points, while Holton (324) and Muskegon Catholic Central (363) finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
