The West Michigan Whitecaps returned to home on Tuesday night to open a seven game home-stand, but were greeted rudely by South Bend who defeated West Michigan 3-0.

Overall, West Michigan is now 83-41 on the year and 38-19 in the second half for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division, two and a half games ahead of Bowling Green.

Anthony Pereira led West Michigan with three hits Tuesday while Cole Bauml and Chad Sedio each added one hit.

Starter Tom De Block took the loss for West Michigan, allowing three runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.

West Michigan will continue its series with South Bend on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
