The West Michigan Whitecaps exploded for 15 runs on Monday night in a 15-2 victory over Lake County at Fifth Third Ballpark.

With the win, West Michigan has now won five in a row and are 71-31 on the year. A 26-9 second half record has West Michigan in first place of the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings, three games ahead of Fort Wayne.

Danny Pinero led West Michigan with four hits and three RBIs on Monday, while Danny Woodrow and Anthony Pereira each had three hits. Pereira also added three RBIs while Derek Hill finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Starting pitched Eudis Idrogo picked up the win, pitching five innings and surrendering one run on three hits while striking out four. Reliever Trent Szkutnik pitched the final four innings, picking up his first save while allowing one run on two hits and striking out three.

West Michigan will close out its series with Lake County on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
