The Muskegon Community College volleyball team lost an early-season conference showdown with rival Grand Rapids CC on Thursday, 3-0.

The set scores were 25-15, 25-19, 25-19.

Both teams entered the match undefeated in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Division standings. GRCC is now a half-game ahead of the Jayhawks with a 4-0 record. MCC dropped to 4-1 in conference play.

Robbie Berg, a Montague High School grad, was the big hitter for MCC with 12 kills. Fruitport’s Katie Veil continued to set up plays with 23 assists while Shelby Rasch served three aces.

Defensively, Kennedi Bernia of Grand Haven had 18 digs. Veihl and Whitehall’s Julie Brown each had three blocks.
