A year after falling short of qualifying for the state playoffs, the Mona Shores varsity football team is now a win away from getting back into the field.
The Sailors remained undefeated following Friday’s 42-7 victory over Jenison in an O-K Black Conference clash. Mona Shores improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Six wins clinches a berth in the state playoffs. 7
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter, but Mona Shores scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead on the Wildcats into halftime.
Ke’sean Sandifer rushed for a 35-yard touchdown for the lone first-quarter score for Mona Shores.
Dee Davis had two rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, while Sincere Dent finished the night with two touchdown runs – one in the second quarter and one in the third.
Austin Flowers rounded out the scoring with a rushing touchdown for the Sailors in the fourth quarter.
The Sailors, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest Division 2 state rankings, travel to Kenowa Hills next Friday night.
