Austin Hoffman’s 335 rushing yards and four touchdowns propelled Mason County Central to a 27-18 win over Shelby Friday night in a West Michigan Conference game.

The Spartans erased an early 6-0 deficit with a 67-yard run from Hoffman to give Mason County Central a 7-6 lead.

The Tigers responded with a touchdown to take a 12-7 midway through the first quarter.

Mason County Central regained its lead on a 33-yard run by Hoffman to give the Spartans a 14-12 advantage at halftime.

Hoffman found the end zone two more times from 71 and 74 yards out, respectively, to give the Spartans a 27-12 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Shelby closed out the contest with a late touchdown to cut the deficit to 27-18 but failed to get closer.

Hunter Wood added 42 yards on five carries for Mason County Central while, Trey Posma and Gus Quigley led the way on defense with eight and seven tackles, respectively.

The Spartans improved their record to 2-6 on the season and 2-5 in conference. They will face Ludington next Friday.

The Tigers dropped their record to 0-8 on the season and will look for their first win next week against Hesperia.
