The Muskegon Lumberjacks’ home-and-home weekend against the Youngstown Phantoms started on a rough note on Friday with a 3-1 loss at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Jacks fell behind early in the game and failed to get on the board until the final minute.

Youngstown’s Mike Regush scored the only goal of the first period at the 6:56 mark.

The Phantoms added two more goals in the second period, from Tommy Parrettino (1:16) and Matthew Barry (5:28).

The Lumberjacks finally got on the board with 18 seconds remaining in the game with a goal from newcomer Vincent de Mey, who was assisted by Clayton Phillips and Egor Afanasyev.

Muskegon lost despite outshooting Youngstown 30-20. Phantoms goalie Ivan Prosvetov got the win.

The Lumberjacks, now 2-4 on the season, will come home to host the Phantoms on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
