The Reeths-Puffer wrestling team had a very good day at the Mason County Central Team Tournament on Saturday, posting a 4-1 record.

The Rockets defeated Mason County Central 51-21, Traverse City St. Francis 66-3, Shelby 45-36 and Hesperia 45-33. Their only loss was against Allendale, 49-24.

The Reeths-Puffer wrestlers who posted perfect 5-0 records on the day were Jacob Blawat (112), Noah McKinnon (119), Alex Chipman (130), Hunter McCall (215) and Brett Thomas (heavyweight).

Posting 4-1 records for the Rockets were Caleb Jensen (135), Brendon Ransom (160), and Gerris Andrus (189).

Two Sailors win flight championships

The Mona Shores wrestling team finished fourth in the Lansing Eastern tournament on Saturday.

Six of eight Sailor wrestlers placed and two were flight champions – Josh Hill at 189 pounds and Zach Donahue at 140 pounds.

Montague’s Lipka captures 145-pound title

Montague’s Matthew Lipka won the championship in the 145-pound division at the Hemlock Invitational on Saturday.

Lipka pinned Tyler Mackey of Lakeland and Logan Zollinger of Heritage to get to the finals, then pinned Joey Young of Mount Morris in the championship round.

Holton’s Brendan Kahl took third in the 171-pound division, while David Hernandez (130) and Daniel Lipka (140) both finished fifth.

Several Holton wrestlers do well at Tri-County

The Holton wrestling team had a tough day at a team tournament at Tri-County High School on Saturday.

The Red Devils dropped all five of their matches, to Cedar Springs (78-0), Pine River (69-12), Sparta (78-5), Jenison (68-3) and Lakeview (39-29).

Dylan Robeck had the best individual day for Holton, willing three matches. Mitch Ross had two wins, while David Plekes, Ryker Laflame, Christian Brooks, Garrett Lulofs and Cam Jones all had single victories.
