The Whitehall boys basketball team overcame a halftime deficit in a 77-69 win over Grant in its season opener on Tuesday night.

The Vikings led 20-19 after the first quarter but trailed 37-33 at the halftime break. Whitehall outscored the Tigers by a 19-9 margin in the third frame to take a 52-46 advantage heading into the fourth then hung on to win the contest.

Whitehall was paced by Brandon Rake with 19 points, six rebounds and four blocks, while Steven Learman added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore DJ Wright chipped in with 10 points for the Vikings and Terrell Harris contributed with 11 assists.

The Tigers were led by Carter Chase with a game-high 35 points.
