Two area standouts in girls basketball were featured on Friday night in a West Michigan Conference battle.
Sophia Wiard led Oakridge to another league win, pouring a game-high 29 points in a victory over Shelby 65-57 on the road.
The Tigers (4-2, 3-1) were paced by Jenny Beckman, who had 27 points.
The Eagles jumped out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter, led 30-27 at halftime and had a 48-38 advantage heading into the final stanza.
Tori Mussell also had a huge night for Shelby, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
WHITEHALL 47, NORTH MUSKEGON 34 – The Vikings (4-2, 2-2) outscored North Muskegon by a 20-9 margin during the third quarter to increase their 14-7 halftime lead to 34-16 after three buzzers. Kacy Jeffries led Whitehall with 13 points while Bailee Spicklemire added 10 points and six steals. North Muskegon was paced by Syann Fairfield with 12 points.
MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 62, MONTAGUE 43 – The Spartans jumped out early in the first half and cruised in the second half to victory. MCC led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter and 38-20 at the half. Rachel Allen led the Spartans with 17 points and five steals, while Kelsey Kosiboski added 14 points. Braquelle Osborne had a team-high 14 points for Montague, while Tianna Smith chipped in with 12.
HART 47, RAVENNA 31 – The Pirates jumped out early and continued to increase their lead as the game went on. Hart (3-3, 2-2) led 14-4 after the first quarter, 27-13 at the half and 40-24 at the end of three stanzas. Yasmine Colon had a team-high 13 points for Hart while Tressa Swihart added 12 points and eight steals. Nichole Rockwell chipped in with 10 points for the Pirates.
