The Muskegon Lumberjacks’ comeback effort fell short on Saturday, and their franchise-record seven-game winning streak came to an end.

The Lumberjacks roared back from a three-goal deficit and tied the game late in the third period, but the host Dubuque Fighting Saints score a goal with 19 seconds left to steal a 4-3 victory.

The Lumberjacks fell to 13-12-2 on the season. They have 28 points and are tied for fifth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference with Cedar Rapids.

Dubuque jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period with two goals from Alexander Steeves and a single tally from Quinn Preston.

Muskegon’s Anthony Del Gaizo scored his 16th goal of the season with less than a minute left in the first period, and Dubuque led 3-1 at the break.

The second period was scoreless. Muskegon tied the game 3-3 with a pair of third-period goals by Mikael Hakkarainen.

But Dubuque skated away with the victory when Dalton Hunter scored with 19 seconds remaining in regulation.

Muskegon outshot Dubuque 25-19.

The Lumberjacks will return to action with a pair of home games next Friday and Saturday against Green Bay.
