The Mona Shores girls basketball team persevered through illness, injury and foul trouble to beat a solid Byron Center team 41-40 on Thursday in a non-league clash.

The Sailors have now won all three of their games since the calendar turned to 2018.

Mona Shores was in command after three quarters, but the Bulldogs had a furious rally in the fourth, scoring 17 points and taking the lead.

Byron Center’s Joy Lee hit her second 3-pointer with just under a minute left to play, putting the Bulldogs up 40-39. Mona Shores’ Megan Delong was fouled with 22 seconds left and made both free throws to give the Sailors their winning points.

Ryleigh Wehler led the Sailors with 17 points and six rebounds while Nia Miskel totaled 11 points and 15 rebounds. Ashley Krueger had a career-high five rebounds.
