Strong team defense and clutch free-throw shooting gave the Ravenna boys basketball team an exciting 52-49 victory over Oakridge in a West Michigan Conference game on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs led 13-5 after one quarter and 33-21 at halftime. Oakridge closed the gap to five points after three quarters, but Ravenna held on for the victory.

Josh Cox played a big role for the Bulldogs, hitting 11 of 17 free throws, including several in the final minutes to help seal the win. He finished with 22 points, four rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Jacob May contributed five rebounds and three assists for Ravenna, which improved to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

WHITEHALL 76, HART 37 – Four players scored in double figures for the Vikings. Brandon Rake led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds, Ethan McKenzie added 16 points and 12 rebounds, Terrell Harris had 14 points and Steven Learman scored 10. Simon Herrera led the Pirates with 11 points.

ALLIANCE CONFERENCE

WYOMING POTTER’S HOUSE 70, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 25 – Calvary Christian, now 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the league, was led by Luke Anhalt with eight points while Jacob McFarren and Ben Zelenka each added six.

GRAND RAPIDS UNION 57, FRUITPORT 42 – The Trojans led 19-14 at the half, but gave up 24 points in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth. Emily Dirkse led Fruitport with 13 points while Jaydie Hanks had eight.
