The Kent City boys basketball team put its perfect season on the line against Class A Kenowa Hills on Saturday for a special game at the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids.

The Eagles had yet to see a challenge like the Knights and managed it well with a 49-44 win. With the victory, they improved their record to 14-0.

The win didn’t come easy as Kent City fell behind 11-6 after the first quarter and trailed by as many as 13 points in the second quarter.

After a Coach Dave Ingles timeout, Kent City regrouped and cut the Kenowa lead to 21-19 by halftime.

Momentum stayed on the Eagles side in the second half as they were able to tie the score 35-35 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Kenowa 14-9 in the final eight minutes.

Gavin Mead led Kent City with 13 points and Fraser Willson had 11 points.

Senior Cody Bowers stepped up big off the bench at the forward spot, scoring all seven of his points in the fourth while grabbing key rebounds along the way. Bowers nailed a 3-pointer and down the stretch shot 4 of 4 from the free throw line for the Eagles.
