The Spring Lake boys basketball team overcame a sluggish first quarter to down Muskegon Heights 43-34 in a non-league contest on Tuesday.

Muskegon Heights led 10-8 at the first buzzer, then the Lakers gained their winning edge with a 14-3 advantage in the second quarter.

Sam Johnson led the Lakers with 12 points while Ben Arteaga, Jack VanWingen and Griffin Lorimer each added eight. Lorimer also had nine rebounds and three assists.

Kieshon Watson led the Tigers with 16 points.

The Lakers wrapped up their regular season with a 16-4 record.

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 58, ZION CHRISTIAN 35 – The Warriors led by six at halftime, then opened things up with a 15-8 edge in the second quarter and a 19-8 advantage in the third. Hayden Hubers led the Warriors with 11 points. Tyler VanBeek, WMC’s only senior, added 10 points while Zach Butkis had nine points and seven rebounds.

MONTAGUE 57, FRUITPORT 47 – The Wildcats trailed 15-13 after the first quarter, led 24-22 at halftime and 39-33 after three quarters. Hunter Mosher paced Montague (12-7) with 19 points and eight rebounds while Kenyan Johnston added 12 points. The Trojans were led by Marcelo Conklin with 14 points.

LUDINGTON 54, FREMONT 44 – The Orioles led 19-12 at halftime and 43-29 heading into the fourth quarter. Josh Laman paced Ludington with 22 points, including 19 during the second half. The Packers, who are now 14-5 on the season, were led Logan Karnemaat and Ben Schmidt with 13 points apiece.

HART 77, MASON COUNTY EASTERN 33 – Damian Gonzalez paced the Pirates with a game-high 16 points while Mitch Mast added seven. Hart (5-15) also received a solid performance from Dale Thompson with six points and seven rebounds. The Pirates held a commanding 29-9 advantage after
the first quarter and never looked back.

FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 59, HOLLAND BLACK RIVER 35 – The Eagles only led 10-9 after one quarter, then caught fire in the second quarter to grab a 30-16 lead by halftime. A 21-point fourth quarter sealed the deal for Calvary. Four players scored in double-figures for the Eagles – Ben Zelenka (19 points), Luke Anhalt (13), Zach Zehr (12) and Jacob McFarren (10).

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 63, BENZIE CENTRAL 35 – The Spartans grabbed an 18-7 lead after one quarter and cruised. Tyler Bromley paced MCC with 17 points and four rebounds while Jeffery Carrier added 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
