The Fruitport Calvary Christian girl’s basketball team will get another shot at Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, after beating Beat Lake 52-33 on Tuesday in the first round of Class D regionals at Big Rapids Crossroads High School.

The Eagles, now 20-3 on the season, will play Sacred Heart in the regional finals on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Big Rapids. This will be the fifth straight year that the two teams will tangle in regionals. Sacred Heart has won the previous four games.

Fruitport Calvary jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead on Tuesday, and Bear Lake called a time out with 5:30 to go in the first quarter. The Lakers stormed back to tie the game 15-15 after one quarter.

But Calvary responded with a 15-3 second quarter run, behind a solid full-court pressure defense, to go into halftime with a 30-18 lead.

The Eagles came out strong in the third quarter, grabbed a 40-22 lead and cruised to the win from there.

Kelsey Richards led Fruitport Calvary with 31 points and six assists. Lizzie Cammenga added eight points and eight rebounds. Brionna Johnson had six points and 11 rebounds and Kristina Warren totaled six assists.
