The Muskegon Lumberjacks will host a first-round USHL playoff series.

The Jacks earned that right on Saturday night with a 5-3 road victory over the Madison Capitols, combined with a loss by Dubuque.

That means all the games in the Jacks’ first-round, best of three playoff series will be at L.C. Walker Arena.

Muskegon’s opponent is yet to be determined. If the Jacks finish in third place, their current spot in the Eastern Conference standings, they will play the sixth-place team, which is currently the Chicago Steel. If they finish in fourth, they would play the fifth-place team, which is currently Dubuque.

The Lumberjacks have two regular-season games remaining – next Friday in Plymouth, Michigan against Team USA and Saturday in Youngstown against the Phantoms.

The Jacks took a commanding lead against Madison on Saturday, scoring twice in the first period and three times in the second to gain a 5-0 advantage.

Madison broke the shutout with two goals in the second and one in the third.

Marc Del Gaizo, Anthony Del Gaizo, Alexander Yakovenko, Egor Afanasyev and Emilio Pettersen scored for Muskegon.

Anthony Del Gaizo, Matej Pekar and Pettersen each had two assists. Keegan Karki stopped 33 shots to get the victory in goal.
