The West Michigan Whitecaps blew a late lead on Monday night, falling 2-1 to Lake County in game one of a four game road series.

West Michigan scored its lone run of the night in the second inning, when Jordan Pearce scored on a Ignacio Valdez ground out.

That 1-0 lead held until the ninth inning when Tyler Friis of Lake County doubled home Austen Wade to tie the game at 1-1.

Later in the inning, a passed ball by Whitecap catcher Joey Morgan allowed Todd Isaacs to score, giving Lake County a 2-1 walk-off win.

Overall, the Whitecap offense was held to three hits on the night including doubles by Cole Peterson and Colby Bortles.

Eudis Idrogo started the game and received a no-decision for his six innings of work. Idrogo allowed no runs on four hits while striking out three. John Hayes picked up the blown save and loss for West Michigan, allowing no earned runs on one walk and two hits.

West Michigan had won four in a row prior to Monday night, and now has a 11-4 record. The Whitecaps are a game and a half ahead of Lansing for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

Lake County will once again host West Michigan on Tuesday at 6:35 for game two of their four game set.
