The West Michigan Whitecaps returned home on Friday and split their doubleheader with the Lansing Lugnuts. Lansing took Game 1 with a score of 11-7 while West Michigan won Game 2 7-4.

In Game 1, Reynaldo Rivera led the Whitecap offense with two hits and an RBI while Jordan Pearce, Joey Morgan, Colby Bortles, Ignacio Valdez and Alexis Garcia all finished with one RBI.

In the nightcap, relief pitcher John Hayes picked up the win for West Michigan, tossing 3 and 1/3 innings while allowing no runs on three hits and striking out five.

Offensively, Brady Policelli led the Whitecaps with three hits and two RBIs, including a solo home run. Garrett McCain also had two RBIs for West Michigan in Game 2.

West Michigan is now 13-7 on the season and a half-game behind Lansing for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

The Whitecaps and Lugnuts will continue their five game series on Saturday at Fifth Third Ballpark at 4:00 p.m.
