The West Michigan Whitecaps lost a tightly contested 2-1 road game at Dayton on Tuesday.

A Jordan Pearce home run in the fourth inning gave the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead which held until the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning, Montrell Marshall of Dayton hit a home run to tie the game at 1-1. In the eighth inning, Jose Garcia of Dayton doubled home Miles Gordon to give Dayton a 2-1 lead.

Pearce led the Whitecaps offense overall with two hits and an RBI while starting pitcher Elvin Rodriguez took a no-decision. Rodriguez allowed one run and struck out 12 in seven innings of work.

The Whitecaps are now 27-24 overall and six games behind first place Bowling Green.

West Michigan will continue its series at Dayton on Wednesday with first pitch schedule for 7 p.m.
