The Mona Shores Sailors needed at least a split in their doubleheader with Jenison on Tuesday to win the O-K Black Conference softball championship, and that’s exactly what they got.
But it came down to the nightcap after the Sailors dropped the first game 2-1. Lauryn Patterson pitched great in the opener, scattering five hits and only surrendering one earned run, but still took the loss.
Mona Shores got the job done in Game 2, claiming a 5-1 victory and the conference title.
The game was tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, before the Sailors broke things open by scoring four runs. Ellery Rose had a double in the contest while Grace Hall and Erica Dakin added RBI singles.
Patterson was rewarded for her strong pitching in Game 2, getting the win while striking out three.
Mona Shores is 23-12 overall and finished the conference season with a 10-2 record.
