The West Michigan Whitecaps have now won five straight games after sweeping Fort Wayne 1-0 and 8-1 in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Matt Manning pitched Game 1, allowing only three hits and striking out nine over six innings of work while reliever Max Green allowed one hit in the final inning.

Joey Morgan scored the lone run of the game in a walk-off fashion when he scored in the bottom of the seventh on a balk. Cole Peterson led the Whitecaps with two hits in Game 1.

In Game 2, the Whitecaps scored four runs in both the second and fourth inning. Peterson, Brady Policelli, Reynaldo Rivera, Jordan Pearce and Cesar Gonzalez all had two hits to lead the offense. Policelli, Rivera and Gonzalez all added two RBIs as well.

Burris Warner started Game 2, allowing two hits and striking out eight over 4 and 2/3 innings while Will Vest tossed the final 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit.

The Whitecaps are now 25-19 on the season and sit in third place of the Midwest League Eastern Division, 3 and ½ games behind first place Lansing.

West Michigan will continue its home series with Fort Wayne at 11a.m. on Wednesday.
