The West Michigan Whitecaps split their doubleheader with South Bend on Saturday, losing Game 1 5-3 but responding with 6-1 win in Game 2.

Colby Bortles led the Whitecaps offense with two RBIs in Game 1 while Brady Policelli had the other lone RBI.

Clate Schmidt took the loss in Game 1, allowing two runs on seven hits over four innings.

In Game 2, Bortles once again led the offense, knocking in three RBIs while adding two hits. Reynaldo Rivera added two RBIs while Jose Azocar had two hits.

Starter Dane Myers picked up his second win of the year, striking out five and allowing one run on four hits in five and 2/3 innings.

The Whitecaps are now 32-30 overall and in third place of the Midwest League Eastern Division, eight games behind first place Bowling Green.

On Sunday, the Whitecaps will continue their home series against South Bend. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
