The West Michigan Whitecaps returned home on Thursday night and were greeted rudely by Bowling Green who defeated the whitecaps 13-1.

The Whitecaps pitching staff surrendered 16 hits on the night, with seven of the nine Bowling Green starters having at least one hit.

Colby Bortles led the Whitecaps offensive effort with three hits and the lone RBI.

Starting pitcher Elvin Rodriguez lasted only 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs and ten runs overall on 11 hits.

The whitecaps are now 41-37 on the year and 5-3 in the second half, two games behind first place Lansing in the Midwest League Eastern Division standings.

The two teams will continue their series on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
