Running back Gio Weeks piled up 189 yards on 14 carries and scored five touchdowns, leading Kent City to a season-opening 36-26 victory over Newaygo on Friday.

Kent City took control early in the game, leading 18-6 lead after one quarter, 26-6 at halftime and 36-12 after three quarters.

Weeks and Evan Jones led the Eagles’ defense with eight tackles apiece while Nolan Sweers had three stops and one interception.

Kent City will visit Beal City next week.
