The Montague football team bounced back from last week’s defeat with a huge 67-7 West Michigan Conference win over Shelby on Thursday night.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter, led 53-0 at halftime and had a 60-7 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Drew Collins paced Montague’s offense with 158 passing yards on 4-for-5 passing with two touchdowns while Sebastian Archer was 2-for-3 passing with 58 yards and one score.

Archer also rushed for 86 yards on eight carries and scored three touchdowns while Jordan Aguilera rushed for 55 yards and one touchdown on four carries.

Montague’s Brennen Schwarz caught four passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns along with collecting seven tackles on the evening.

The Wildcats were led defensively by Sam Welch with eight tackles while Johnny Monette added seven.

Montague, which will host Mason County Central next Friday, is now 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

Shelby, which is 0-2 on the season, was paced by receiver Simon Payne with six catches for 97 yards and a touchdown while Angel Pena had six tackles defensively.
