Goalie Jake McFarren stopped all eight shots he faced, leading the Fruitport Calvary Christian soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Montague on Thursday in a non-league tilt.

Calvary’s Zach Zehr scored a goal just nine minutes into the game, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. With 6:51 left in the half, junior Ben Zelenka scored a from 25 yards out to give Calvary a 2-0 lead at the break.

Luke Anhalt gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead with a goal of his own in the second half.

The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the young season.

FRUITPORT 2, SPRING LAKE 2 – In the latest edition of the passionate non-conference rivalry, the Trojans and Lakers played to a draw. Spring Lake’s Charlie Parker scored the first goal early in the first half to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Evan Ernst added a tally later in the first half, putting Spring Lake up by two. Fruitport’s Logan Manciu scored an unassisted goal just before halftime, leaving the score 2-1 at the break. With seven minutes left in the game, Fruitport’s Cameron Schultz scored on a penalty kick to produce the final deadlock. Fruitport is now 1-1-1 on the season.

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 0, GR NORTHPOINTE CHRISTIAN 0 – The Warriors ended up with their second tie of the young season. Each team only managed three shots on goal in the defensive struggle. WMC had an apparent goal by Isaac Van Hoven, but it was disallowed on a close offside call. WMC moves to 2-0-2 on the season.
