The Whitehall football team pulled away late on Friday against Kelloggsville by a 23-12 margin after scoring three fourth quarter touchdowns in a non-league season opening contest.
The game was scoreless until Kelloggsville scored a late second quarter touchdown to take a 6-0 halftime lead.
The Vikings cut their deficit to 6-2 after Ethan Mckenzie forced a safety in the third quarter.
Whitehall grabbed its first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter on a five-yard touchdown run by Kayleb Venema to give the Vikings a 9-6 lead.
Kelloggsville answered back with a touchdown to take a 12-9 advantage.
The Vikings regained their lead for good after a 25-yard pass from Gavin Shafer to Kyler Honore to take a 16-12 lead.
Kris Dowdell closed out the scoring for Whitehall late in the game after a five-yard touchdown run.
DJ Wright had 11 carries and rushed for 54 yards while receiver Honore had 25 yards on one reception.
Whitehall is now 1-0 on the season and will open up league play on Thursday on the road against Mason County Central.
