The West Michigan Whitecaps fell 4-2 to the Great Lakes Loons on Sunday afternoon, tying them with Fort Wayne for the second half wild card playoff berth.

The Whitecaps now sit at 29-33 in the second half, nine and a half games behind first place Bowling Green.

On Sunday, Reynaldo Rivera singled home Colby Bortles in the fourth inning to start the Whitecaps scoring, and make the score 2-1 in favor of Great Lakes.

In the sixth inning, Wenceel Perez hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Brady Policelli and cut the Whitecaps deficit to 3-2.

Great Lakes added an additional insurance run in the seventh inning, extending their lead to 4-2 which ended up being the final.

Bortles led the Whitecaps with three hits on the day while starting pitcher Endrys Briceno took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits while also striking out three.

The Whitecaps and Loons will close out their series on Monday with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
