The Ludington Orioles dropped their Lakes 8 conference opener 33-14 to Manistee Friday night.

The Orioles started off the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Meeker to Drew Acre, giving the Orioles a 7-0 lead early in the first.

The Chippewas responded, however, scoring two touchdowns midway through the first to take a 13-7 lead.

Before the first quarter ended, Meeker scored on a run from seven yards out to give Ludington  a 14-13 lead that lasted until halftime.

In the second half, the Orioles offense went cold, getting outscored 20-0.

Meeker led the Orioles offense through the air with 173 yards and a touchdown while adding 52 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Acre paced the receivers for Ludington with two catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.

The Orioles dropped to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
