The Fremont football team couldn’t keep up down the stretch and lost a conference matchup to Chippewa Hills, 42-20 on Friday.

The Packers jumped on the board first with Brandon Taylor scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run. With less than a minute left in the first quarter, Chippewa Hills responded with a four-yard touchdown run. Fremont led 7-6 after the first quarter.

Chippewa Hills scored twice in the second quarter, taking a 21-7 lead going into the half.

Fremont’s defensive struggles continued in the third quarter, when the Packers gave up two touchdowns. With less than a minute left in the third, Fremont’s Kane Widing scored on a 35-yard run, make the score 35-14.

Less than a minute into the fourth, Chippewa Hills scored on 30-yard touchdown run. Fremont responded later in the quarter with Cody Andree scoring on a one-yard burst, finishing the scoring for the night.

Andree completed two of his six passing attempts for 53 yards. Widing led the ground game for the Packers, rushing for 128 yards on 16 carries. Zane Stroven had a team high 33 yards receiving while Widing and Jared Luchies led the defense with six tackles.

Fremont falls to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Packers travel to McBain next week.
