The Fruitport volleyball squad posted a 2-0 record in a dual match on its home court on Thursday evening.
The Trojans cruised past Mona Shores by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 26-24, then outlasted Reeths-Puffer by scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 23-25 and 15-12.
Jordyn Carlyle paced Fruitport with 24 kills while Kylie Oberlin added 20 kills along with three blocks. Kailey Carmean chipped in with 47 assists.
The Trojans were led defensively by Trinity Busscher with 29 digs while Carmean had 26 on the evening.
Fruitport is now 32-13 overall on the season and 11-1 in league competition.
Mona Shores split its two matches, defeating Kenowa Hills by scores of 25-16, 25-20, 19-25 and 25-18 before falling to Fruitport in a three sets.
The Sailors were led by Emma Lynn with 23 kills and 35 digs, while Lauren Dunn added 18 kills and Megan DeLong chipped in with 59 assists.
Mona Shores is now 17-26-3 on the season and 7-5 in conference play.
The issue I have with this article is that it fails to mention any of the Reeths -Puffer or Kenowa girls- who also played very well that night. In fact, RP played so well, that Fruitport won their games by only a few points AND it didn’t happen until the 5th set! That says something about the RP girls- who also beat Kenowa (twice) and Shores (once) in previous dates. Kenowa also best Shores one set that nightt. I’m not disagreeing that Fruitport and Shores may have good teams, but how about giving credit to some of the other girls who played just as good?!
